Amedeo's Italian Restaurant
About us
Amedeo’s isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a tradition. Since 1963, we’ve been serving up authentic Italian flavors with a side of NC State pride. Our founder, Amedeo De’Angelis, was more than just a restaurateur—he was a former NC State football player whose love for the game and great food inspired what has become a beloved Wolfpack gathering spot. Located right next to campus, Amedeo’s has been a home away from home for students, alumni, and NC State fans for generations.
With a casual Italian restaurant and pizzeria vibe, our space blends the warmth of homemade pasta and pizza with the excitement of a sports-bar feel. But what truly sets us apart? Our one-of-a-kind collection of NC State sports memorabilia—the largest (unofficially) in Raleigh! Step inside, and you’ll take a walk through Wolfpack history, surrounded by jerseys, photos, and memories that celebrate the spirit of NC State Athletics. So whether you're here for game day, a family dinner, or just to enjoy a classic Italian dish, Amedeo’s is the place where friends, food, and football come together. Join us and be a part of the tradition!
Amedeo's Legacy
Whether you were a busboy or the most well-known NC State figure in Raleigh, Dick treated everyone who walked through the doors of Amedeo's with the same respect. He had an incredible ability to touch the lives of those around him—from the restaurant's loyal regulars to his beloved grandchildren. His warm spirit welcomed everyone, and his knack for cracking a joke with anyone willing to listen made people feel instantly connected to him.
Amedeo's brought people together over a shared love of Italian food, NC State football (a team Dick helped win an ACC championship with in 1957), and great company. Legends like Jim Valvano, Earle Edwards, Chuck Amato, Bob Guzzo, Sam Esposito, and George Tarantini were regulars, stopping by not just for a great meal, but to spend time with their dear friend Dick. More than just its namesake, Dick was the heart and soul of Amedeo's. People didn't just come for the food—they came for the family atmosphere he created.
Anyone who steps inside Amedeo's can see the lasting impact Dick had on shaping the restaurant's character. His legacy is woven into every detail, from the menu filled with cherished family recipes to the countless pieces of NC State memorabilia lining the walls.
Continuing the Tradition
In 2010, David Harris, the current majority owner and operator, took over Amedeo's alongside minority owners Rodney Byrd, Jill Parker, and Dave Parker. The new ownership has remained dedicated to upholding the core values that Amedeo's was founded on while also revitalizing and enhancing the restaurant experience. Their commitment to tradition, quality, and community has ensured that Amedeo's continues to be a beloved spot for NC State fans, families, and food lovers alike.
Honoring a Lasting Community Impact
In honor of six decades of service to the community, Amedeo's was awarded a special proclamation from the City of Raleigh—August 27, 2023, was officially named "Amedeo's Day!" Additionally, in the year the restaurant opened (1963), Amedeo R. DeAngelis was honored with "The Order of the Long Leaf Pine" by Governor Robert W. Scott, one of North Carolina's highest civilian awards.
